Nusrat Ghani, MP for Wealden, has been appointed by the Prime Minister, Liz Truss, to join her Government as a Minister for Science and Investment Security at the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS).
The Department covers a wide array of policy areas, including science, research and innovation, energy and clean growth and climate change. As part of her role, Nusrat will be responsible for science and research, life sciences, innovation strategy, critical mineral supply chain, maritime and shipbuilding, space strategy and artificial intelligence.
Nusrat Ghani said: “I am delighted to have been asked by the Prime Minister to serve in her Government as a Minister in the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy. Support for UK businesses and science and innovation are subjects on which I have been campaigning passionately over the past few years. There is a lot to be getting on with and I look forward to continuing to build on the work I have been delivering over the couple of years as part of the Business Select Committee and in my role as rapporteur for NATO Science and technology Committee. Alongside my Ministerial duties, I will continue to be a strong voice for Wealden and continue to deliver for my constituents."
