Nus Ghani has invited her constituents to recommend local pubs to be nominated for the Parliamentary Pub Chef Award.
The standard of the nominees was very high in 2016 and this year’s competition will undoubtedly attract a similar calibre of chef.
Once the nominee or nominees for Wealden have been selected, they will be entered into the full judging process before a final award is presented in the House of Commons early next year. There will be a prize of £500 for the winner of each category.
Pubs across the country serve almost one billion meals each year and the position of a chef can provide a varied, exciting and rewarding career; this competition is an opportunity to celebrate the skill and hard work of our local pub chefs.
Nus is a strong supporter of local pubs, supporting CAMRA’s ‘Pledge for Pubs’ and acting as an active member of the All-Party Parliamentary Beer Group. Last year she surveyed every pub in Wealden in order to find out more about their queries and concerns. She has also worked with local pubs to help encourage locals to eat and drink locally.
On a national level, Nus has campaigned to tackle beer duty and has called other MPs to support their local pubs through the ‘Pub is the Hub’ campaign.
Commenting on the award, Ms Ghani said: “We are fortunate to have so many pubs in Wealden that serve excellent food as well as great beer.
Pubs and breweries contribute a huge amount to Wealden, both socially and economically; as well as providing social hubs, the pub industry invests £2.5m each year into the local economy and provides 1,422 local jobs. This award is just one way in which we can celebrate the contribution that pubs make.
I know that there are many talented pub chefs serving up delicious dishes up and down the constituency, from Crowborough to Hailsham; this is why I am inviting constituents to get in touch with me and recommend their favourite local pubs which deserve to be nominated for the Parliamentary Pub Chef Awards.
I know that a fantastic Laughton pub, the Roebuck Inn, won the ‘Free House of the Year Award’ at the Great British Pub Awards earlier this month and I confident that Wealden pubs can win big again in the Parliamentary Pub Chef Awards.”
Nomnations close on the 27th of October. If there is a local pub you think deserves to be nominated, please contact Nus via email at: [email protected] or on Facebook at: www.facebook.com/NusGhani.
