Nus Ghani, MP for Wealden, has advocated for greater mental and physical wellbeing support for Wealden children during today’s Covid-19 statement in Parliament.
Nus is in regular contact with Wealden schools to listen to their concerns and provide advice, help and representation.
During the Covid-19 statement in Parliament today, Nus thanked the Health Secretary for ensuring that the vaccination rollout is running at a fantastic pace in Wealden but raised her concerns about the ongoing closure of schools.
Nus urged the Health Secretary to ensure that there is no more delay to school openings and called for the Department of Health to put a rigorous health support package in place for our children.
The Health Secretary has committed to providing as much support as possible.
A video of Nus’ speech is available here.
Nus Ghani said: “I thank the Heath Secretary on behalf of Wealden for ensuring that vaccinations are being delivered to Wealden residents at a fantastic pace and we are on track to meet our targets. However, I am incredibly concerned about school closures and the ongoing impact on our children’s education, and it is my priority to ensure that children in Wealden return to school as soon as possible. The unintended consequences of lockdowns run deep in Wealden and it is vital that our youngest residents have access to a robust health, wellbeing and educational support after lockdown.”
