Wealden Heroines

To mark this year’s International Women’s Day, Nus Ghani, MP for Wealden, celebrates the contributions made by exceptional women in Wealden.

Many women across the country have been dealing with the extra burdens that the pandemic has created and women in Wealden have done incredible work in the most challenging of times. Great sacrifices have been made, as many women have juggled working from home or on the frontline with childcare and caring for loved ones.

Nus is taking the opportunity to celebrate women in Wealden that have become community leaders and thanking them for the incredibly important part they played in the response to Covid-19.

Nus Ghani said: “I am proud to be representing Wealden in Westminster as its first female MP and I will always work to encourage more women to become leaders. Today presents a perfect opportunity to celebrate all the women across our community who continue to play a key role in the response to Covid-19.

“It was my privilege to meet so many incredible Wealden Heroines last summer, who organised support for the vulnerable, championed mental health services, made PPE for the frontline workers, led local businesses and provided essentials to the community. I also want to thank all the fantastic healthcare leaders in Wealden for delivering the rollout of the vaccine.

“I’ve previously been working with many organisations across Wealden, such as the Bridge Cottage in Uckfield and Women’s Institute commemorating the centenary of women getting the vote for the first time. There is still more to be done in advancing the cause of women, and I remain committed to ensuring that women in Wealden feel empowered to reach their full potential and succeed.”
