Nus Ghani, MP for Wealden, has welcomed the news and data to support excellent progress in vaccine rollout in Wealden and across East Sussex.

Nus is holding regular virtual meetings with health authorities in East Sussex to discuss updates on progress in Wealden. Nus was pleased to learn that the vaccine rollout is progressing well and that the target to vaccinate all older care home residents by the end of January has been met, with only those care homes where there has been an outbreak waiting for the jab.

With more than 238,000 vaccines already distributed, the NHS in East Sussex is on track to meet the national target of vaccinating those in the top four priority cohorts by 15 February.

Following the opening of a large vaccination centre in Brighton last week, another large vaccination site has opened in Eastbourne, further increasing vaccination capacity in Sussex. The new centre is in addition to the local GP-led vaccination services that now cover all patients in Wealden, and select pharmacy-led services that are also available through the national booking system.

Nus Ghani said: “It is excellent news that in East Sussex, we are on track to meet the 15 February deadline of vaccinating the top four propriety groups. Our local health authorities have done a fantastic job in ensuring that the vaccine is available to the patients of every GP surgery in Wealden and Sussex.”

“Despite the alarming news of transmission of the new variant in the UK, I believe that with the ever-increasing rollout of the vaccine, the tide is turning. I would urge everyone in Wealden to honour the appointment when it is their turn to get vaccinated. If you are contacted by both the national booking service as well as your GP and have the opportunity to choose where to receive the vaccine, please accept the first appointment available, as long you have a safe way of transport.”
