Nus Ghani, MP for Wealden, has been working with the Business Select Committee on the impact of Covid on UK businesses and job security.
During the second national lockdown, Nus is holding daily surgeries for local businesses and residents to offer help and to ensure that their concerns are reflected in government policy.
Nus has long been working closely with Wealden’s three Chambers of Commerce: Hailsham, Crowborough and Uckfield. During these unprecedented times, she is in daily contact with them or their members to discuss our local and national economy and job security.
During this week’s House of Commons business, Nus had the opportunity to raise the concerns of Wealden’s manufacturing firms in Parliament and to enquire about what further support can be provided for Wealden's small and medium-sized businesses not only during Covid, but also in preparation of Britain leaving the EU next year.
Nus will be meeting with the Business Minister to take forward individual cases of Wealden’s business and to secure further support and funding for them.
Nus Ghani said: “Small businesses in Wealden are the backbone of our local economy and this year has been an incredibly difficult period for them. As we continue to deal with the impact of Covid and the second national lockdown, I am in daily contact with local businesses and members of our local Chambers of Commerce. We must ensure that the Government supports Wealden’s local manufacturing firms struggling with Covid and preparing for Brexit.”
