Nus Ghani, MP for Wealden, celebrates Wealden winemakers during English Wine Week, an annual event created by Wine GB.
The event is designed to raise awareness about the variety of different wines being made across England. While previous years have seen events take place at local vineyards and in local communities, this year’s event will be largely celebrated at home and virtually.
Wealden’s vineyards are a significant local employer and generate jobs in the community through the tourist trade, as people come from all over the world for the excellent wine and hospitality offered by the producers. The best way to show support for Wealden viticulture during this difficult time is to buy products either directly from local vineyards or look out for them in your local supermarket.
Nus Ghani MP has worked closely with local vineyards such as Fox & Fox, Beacon Down vineyard and Bluebell vineyard, and campaigned for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and the Department for International Trade to only serve English sparkling wines at receptions hosted by British embassies across the world.
Nus has also advocated for keeping the duty on UK wines, spirits, and other beverages low, to support this sector in competing with foreign imports.
Nus Ghani said: “I am enormously proud that Wealden is the home of some of the very best vineyards in the UK. I will always champion our local winemakers, who work incredibly hard all year round to produce their excellent, award-winning products. Wealden’s vineyards have a crucial place in our community as major local employers and English Wine Week is a perfect opportunity to celebrate the amazing wines that can be found on our doorstep.”
