Nus Ghani, MP for Wealden, has welcomed the next phase of the Local Authority Discretionary Grant scheme, delivered by the Wealden District Council.
At the beginning of May, the Government announced a Discretionary Grant for certain small businesses which were not eligible for previous funding such as the Small Business Grants Fund and the Retail, Leisure and Hospitality Grants Fund.
Phase One and Two of applications has taken place during June and July and awards have been made to those who met the eligibility criteria. However, funding is still available for the Council to utilise for other local businesses and applications are now open for Phase Three of the Discretionary Grant Scheme.
Deadline for applications is 5pm on Friday 28 August, or until all discretionary grant funds have been spent, whichever is sooner.
The Council’s Discretionary Business Grant Scheme Policy has been amended since roll out of the first and second phases, but state aid rules and other exclusions still apply. For more information and to apply, please visit the Council's website here.
Nus Ghani said: “Small businesses are at the heart of our local community and the last few months have been an incredibly difficult period for them. I am pleased to see the great work of Wealden Council in supporting local businesses and I am delighted that many Wealden businesses have already received Government support. However, I am also aware that some businesses may have previously been ineligible for Government funding and are struggling financially. I encourage business owners that were previously unable to apply to check the new criteria and get in touch with Wealden District Council.”
