Nus Ghani, MP for Wealden, has welcomed the news that Uckfield and Maresfield branches of McDonald’s will be reopening their Drive Thru lane from 3rd June, with new measures in place to keep employees and customers safe. The news comes as the Government has announced plans to continue easing lockdown, including outdoor markets and car showrooms being allowed to reopen if they are “Covid-secure”.

A number of changes have been introduced to ensure safety at the restaurants, including: social distancing in the kitchens and service areas; Perspex screens at Drive Thru windows and employees wearing protective equipment; contactless thermometers will be used to test employees’ temperatures upon arrival to work; a limited menu with reduced opening hours and a capped spend of £25 with contactless payment methods encouraged wherever possible.

Nus Ghani said “I am pleased to see that businesses in Wealden are slowly starting to be able to reopen and I hope we can begin to get our economy moving again as soon as possible.  From speaking to so many local business owners over the past few months, I know that this has been an incredibly difficult time for businesses and I would encourage business owners to look at the Government guidance on ensuring workplaces are as safe as possible https://www.gov.uk/guidance/working-safely-during-coronavirus-covid-19. There is still a long way to go, but I hope the changes that have come in to effect from today are a positive step in the right direction and I would like to again thank everyone in Wealden for their patience during lockdown.”
