Nus Ghani, MP for Wealden, has welcomed the Government’s announcement of gradual reopening of places of worship across England for individual prayer from Monday 15th June.
People of all faiths, unable to mark Easter, Passover, Ramadan or Vaisakhi in the traditional way this year, have shown enormous patience over recent months. Although communal worship will not be possible at this stage, the move to reopen places of worship for individual prayer recognises the spiritual and mental health benefits for people being able to pray in their place of worship, and that for some people this cannot be replicated by praying at home. From 15th June, individuals will be able to practice their religion safely, while following social distancing rules.
Nus Ghani said: “Having spoken to Vicars of Groombridge, Hailsham, Uckfield and Waldron, alongside receiving correspondence from the Bishop of Chichester stressing the importance of opening places of prayer, I am pleased to have successfully campaigned for the reopening of places of worship. I am delighted that private prayer can begin to take place across Wealden, and that Wealden constituents will have a space to reflect, pray, and to connect with their faith during this unprecedented time.”
New guidance will become available in the coming days, on the Government website here.
