Rajdoot Curry House, based in Hailsham, was selected from thousands of Curry Houses in the UK to receive the prestigious “top chef” award.
Members from Rajdoot Curry House were joined by Nus Ghani MP at the awards night in London held by the Bangladesh Caterers Association. The annual gala was attended by more than 1,100 chefs and guests from across the UK, including the Bangladesh High Commissioner.
Chef Abdul Kasheem, known as Kash to the local community, said after receiving the award:
“I am completely blown away by how happy I am to receive this award. I thank the community in Hailsham for supporting us throughout the years and indeed Nus Ghani MP for her ongoing support and for taking the 6-hour round trip from Hailsham to London to attend this event!”
Rajdoot Curry house had previously been lauded by Nus Ghani MP for their food and for being a “hub for the local community”. The Curry House is also a champion for local charities, having previously raised £1, 700 for St Wilfrid’s hospice.
Nus Ghani, MP of Wealden said: “I am honoured to join Rajdoot Curry House on such a great night for them as they receive their well-deserved recognition for their food. This is indeed a great day for Wealden and a fantastic acknowledgement of our deliciously diverse local food scene!”
“In the past, I have not only visited but had also cooked at Rajdoot’s. I can tell from their process how much they care about the food they serve. Perhaps our exchange of recipes is why they have won the award!” She joked.
