Nus Ghani, MP for Wealden, encourages Wealden residents to take part in a call for evidence to help shape new strategy to tackle violence against women.

The Government has reopened a call for evidence to further collect views from those with lived experience of, or views on, crimes considered as violence against women and girls. The call for evidence has been reopened to reflect the recent public discussion about Violence Against Women and Girls to provide an additional opportunity to feed into the consultation.

Further evidence will help shape future strategy to make the streets safe and ensure that women and girls do not face harassment or abuse. In addition to those with lived experiences of these issues, the consultation also seeks the views of those with expertise in working with victims and survivors, those involved in preventative activity, and those involved in providing services.

The consultation is open to everyone aged 16 or over and is available here. The closing date is 26 March.

Nus Ghani said: “It sad but inescapable truth that violence against women and girls is a horrific reality in 21st century Britain. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of Sarah Everard and all women who have fallen victims to heinous actions of men. Every woman should feel safe to walk on our streets without fear of harassment or violence. I greatly encourage women and girls in Wealden to share their views and help shape a strategy to tackle these dreadful crimes.”

“I have been campaigning for more resources for victims of domestic violence and abuse since my election to Parliament and I have been working with Sussex Police on a coordinated campaign across Wealden to support victims of domestic violence and allow them to seek help discreetly in public places such as supermarkets. I am pleased the Government has already committed to empowering and protecting victims of this devastating crime and I hope that this consultation will help us create robust plan and policies to protect women and girls from violence.”
