Wealden MP Nus Ghani is backing Wealden’s high streets to win at the Great British High Street Awards 2018.
The Great British High Street Awards recognise and celebrate the local achievements of high streets across the country, and the contribution they make to their local communities. There are two categories to the awards, Champion High Street for best overall high street, and Rising Star High Street, for the most innovative high street. The awards are run by the Ministry for Housing, Communities and Local Government.
The winning high street will receive £10,000 to go towards local community projects. Nus is working with local representatives to nominate high streets across Wealden, including in Mayfield, Hailsham, Forest Row, Crowborough and Uckfield. The deadline for nominations is August 22nd.
Nus is inviting constituents to get in touch and outline what makes their local high street special, from community shops to local entrepreneurs and innovators, and why they think their high street should win High Street of the Year.
Nus Ghani, MP for Wealden, said: “Wealden is home to so many wonderful high streets, full of quintessentially English charm. They are diverse and innovative community hubs, and a great asset to so many of my constituents.
“The Great British High Street Awards are a fantastic way for our high streets to receive the recognition they deserve. I will be backing all Wealden entrants to go as far as possible, through working with local associations such as the Chambers of Commerce in Hailsham, Uckfield and Crowborough.”
“I invite all Wealden residents to get in touch with me, at [email protected], and tell me why they think their high street should win, and what makes it special. With the Wealden community spirit I believe that a Wealden high street can win the top prize.”
