Lymley Wood CIC is an outdoor activity centre based in Argos Hill near Mayfield.
It provides nature and adventure-based learning opportunities for families, children, young people and community groups to enable all who visit the venue to become connected to nature. Amongst other outdoor activities, they offer Forest School, residential outings and camps, adult wellbeing workshops and volunteering opportunities.
Since July, The National Lottery Community Fund awarded £49,563 to community projects in Wealden and Lymley Wood CIC is one of the most recent recipients. The funding will be used to deliver a programme of Wilderness therapy for disadvantaged teenagers. Wilderness therapy combines experiential education group therapy and resilience building activities in a woodland setting. This will enable young people to learn new skills, make new friends, gain insight into their own behaviour patterns and develop life skills and coping strategies that will support them as they move into adulthood.

Melanie Parr, Managing Director said: “Lymley Wood CIC is excited to be delivering the Out There Academy – Wild Teens programme in East Sussex starting this October. Wild Teens is a proven outdoor learning programme specifically for teenagers who may be struggling at school for any reason. The programme was developed by the Wilderness Foundation and is now coming to East Sussex and will support students aged 12-17 to develop social and team skills, explore nature and the environment, learn bushcraft and survival skills and develop increased resilience confidence and sense of achievement. Set in the beautiful ancient woodland the young people will explore their sense of self, build new relationships, and utilise the healing power of nature in their learning and development.
