Nus Ghani, MP for Wealden, is backing a new rural crime reporting hotline provided by the National Farmers Union in tandem with CrimeStoppers, part of the ongoing campaign to tackle serious issues surrounding criminal behaviour in the countryside.
Nus has long worked with Wealden farmers to address concerns arising from rural crime, a very poignant issue in rural areas like Wealden and East Sussex. Examples of rural crime affecting rural Wealden communities include fly-tipping, livestock worrying and machinery theft.
Farmers or anyone from the general public can report their concerns at any potential rural crime by calling 0800 783 0137, or by visiting www.ruralcrimereportingonline.uk.
Welcoming the new hotline, Ms Ghani said: “This new hotline is very welcome. We have a thriving and dynamic rural economy in Wealden, and rural crime has been a major issue to many of our farmers and food producers.
“I have worked with our farmers, local councils, the Government and the NFU to combat problems arising from fly-tipping and other rural crime, and I know the new rural crime reporting hotline will make a big difference in cracking down on the devastating impacts of rural crime.
“I would encourage anyone to use the hotline if they are at all suspicious of any potential rural crime, helping to rid this blight on our countryside.”
