Nus Ghani urges constituents to support the local economy by shopping at farmers’ markets in Crowborough, Uckfield, Hailsham, or their own village or town. In this vein, she welcomes the ‘Love your Wealden Markets’ campaign, launched by Wealden District Council.
The campaign will be active from Saturday, 7th March, until the end of April, aiming to encourage residents and visitors to support farmers and small businesses based in the constituency. With a number of regular farmers' markets to choose from, there is plenty of fresh, seasonal, and locally sourced produce to enjoy, with a very low carbon footprint, given the local sourcing.
Nus Ghani has been advocating on behalf of Wealden farmers for the past five years. She holds regular meetings with farmers across the constituency and the National Farmers Union. Such meetings, which serve as an opportunity for Ghani to listen to issues raised by farmers, have previously served as the basis for the House of Commons debate on tenant farming, led by the Wealden MP.
On the ‘Love your Wealden Markets Campaign’, Nus Ghani commented:
‘Wealden farmers and producers are hard-working entrepreneurs who deserve to be promoted. Their produce is not only fresh and of outstanding quality, but buying straight from them helps our dynamic local economy.’
‘I urge everyone to visit their local farmers’ market, not only between April and March, but all year round. Buying local is healthier, more convenient, and more environmentally friendly, as the products will have a lower carbon footprint, given that they don’t come from too far away.’
