Nus Ghani

Nus Ghani joined pupils from various schools in East Sussex and representatives from East Sussex County Council, at the Democracy Awards, held in Parliament.

Nus Ghani extended a special welcome to students from three schools in Wealden: Beacon Academy, Uckfield Community College and Hailsham Community College.

The Awards recognised the efforts put in by schools in the recent election of the new East Sussex Youth Cabinet, with over 60 pupils and staff from local schools present at the ceremony.

Nus Ghani, alongside the other Sussex MPs, answered questions from students, on various topics, from the daily life of an MP, to the role of the House of Lords in Parliament. She also encouraged students, who have raised climate change as their top-interest issue, to get involved in clean-up activities in their local areas, encourage each other to make small changes to save energy, and continue to lobby Governments nationally and internationally.

After the ceremony, Ghani said:

‘It is so good to see so many pupils here today, getting involved in student politics. Teaching about democracy in our schools and engaging students in democratic activities are two fundamental steps in ensuring the bright future of this country. I must also place on record my thanks to Wealden teaching staff and volunteers who make these activities possible.’

‘I am very pleased to meet students from Beacon Academy, Uckfield Community College, and Hailsham Community College and answer their questions and curiosities about my work as a Member of Parliament. I am always happy to sit down for discussions with young constituents, both when I host schools in Westminster or when I visit them, in Wealden.’
