Nus Ghani, MP for Wealden, is chairing a maritime quiz in support of Seafarers UK this week.
We rely on seafarers for all our industries as well as stocking our supermarket shelves. Seafarers work in some of the world’s toughest conditions to satisfy global demand and they often feel isolated and lack the resources for food, accommodation or health services once they are no longer serving at sea.
Seafarers UK are holding a charity fundraiser in the form of a Maritime Quiz to raise much needed support for our key workers at sea. The event takes place on Thursday 28 January 2021 at 6pm and is hosted by Nus. Prizes for winners include a sailing trip and a dining experience at a Michelin star restaurant.

Nus has been a strong advocate for seafarers throughout the pandemic. She has recently joined Seafarers UK as a Trustee and will be supporting the charity’s work on better mental health provisions for those who work at sea. Nus has long called for seafarers to be granted the status of key workers and she has written articles for the Telegraph, the Guardian, and City AM and spoken in the Chamber to highlight the humanitarian crisis, with nearly half a million seafarers trapped at sea by Covid restrictions.
Nus Ghani said: “Fancy a sea shanty? All landlubbers are invited to Seafarers UK charity maritime quiz this Thursday. Pull up a chair, pour a drink and join in to test your maritime knowledge and support this fantastic charity fundraiser! It is vital that we support our seafarers, especially during this unprecedented time. I know that many Wealden residents have family members or are themselves seafarers and I hope that together we can do our bit to support all those at sea delivering our essentials.”
