Nus Ghani, MP for Wealden, has welcomed the news of an additional £208,000 for Wealden District Council to support the safe reopening of local high streets.
Wealden District Council will receive an additional £208,303 as part of the £56 million Welcome Back Fund to help councils prepare for the end of lockdown.
The funding will help boost tourism, improve green spaces and provide more outdoor seating areas, markets and food stall pop-ups. These additional measures will establish a safe trading environment for businesses and customers, particularly in high streets and provide people with more, safer options to reunite with friends and relatives this summer.
Nus Ghani said: “Wealden’s local shops and high streets have been severely hit by the pandemic and national lockdowns. I continue to work to secure them the help they need to recover, and I am pleased that they can be supported through this fund to reopen safely. With restrictions on retail soon to be lifted, I would greatly encourage people to step onto the high street and shop to give our local businesses a much-needed boost.”
