This week, Nus Ghani welcomed children from Sacred Heart School, Wadhurst, to Parliament for a tour and a question-and-answer session.
The group of year six students enjoyed a workshop at Parliament’s Education Centre on the history of the oldest democratic chamber in the world, followed by a tour of the Palace of Westminster, including access to both the House of Commons and the Lords chambers.
During their lively question-and-answer session with Nus, the students asked questions on everything from the food in Parliament to Brexit.
Commenting on the visit, Ms Ghani said: “It was fantastic to meet such an engaged group of young students from Wadhurst. They asked very interesting questions on democracy, elections and football. I was delighted to share my place of work and I hope I was able to shed some light on what it is like to be a Member of Parliament and a legislator.
My aim as the MP for Wealden is to inspire future politicians, regardless of their backgrounds, and to open up access to parliament. I could not recommend school tours enough; they are are an excellent way for young people to experience Parliament because they enable students to ‘access all areas’.
I am pleased that so many schools from Wealden take advantage of the programme offered by the Parliament Education Service and I would strongly encourage all Wealden schools who have not yet visited Parliament to get in touch with me in order to arrange a visit.”
Nus is always happy to meet visitors from Wealden to talk about the politics and history of Westminster, the work of an MP and local issues.
