Last week, Nus asked questions at a charity quiz night in Jarvis Brook in aid of ‘Sussex Nightstop’. She donated a prize to be awarded to the winning team, comprising: a visit to Parliament, tea with Nus and a tour of the House of Commons and the House of Lords.
The quiz night was organised by a team of twelve sixteen and seventeen year-old women from Wealden as part of the government-funded National Citizen Service scheme. Prizes for the raffle and the winning quiz teams were generously donated by local businesses.
As part of their National Citizen Service, the women have created a social action project that raises awareness about homeless young people. They have been working with a local charity, Sussex Nightstop: an organisation that works with homeless young people aged sixteen to twenty-five, connecting them with local hosts who provide temporary accommodation.
The donations and money raised by the women through their various fundraising efforts will go towards the creation of fifty ‘Bags of Hope’: backpacks filled with essential supplies and information about support services. These ‘Bags of Hope’ will be given to homeless young people in Brighton and Sussex with the support of Sussex Nightstop. The team raised an impressive total of £900. Sussex Nightstop were given £700 and the remaining £200 was spent on toiletries and items of clothing for the ‘Bags of Hope’.
Commenting on the visit, Ms Ghani said: “The quiz night was a thoroughly enjoyable evening and I was very happy to be able to donate the prize for the winning team.
The women who organised the quiz night as part of their National Citizen Service should be extremely proud of their successful fundraising for Sussex Nightstop. This local charity goes a long way in supporting vulnerable young people in Sussex. I am pleased to hear that the National Citizen Service team are working to build lasting connections between retailers and Sussex Nightstop in order to facilitate the regular donation of items; this will be an impressive legacy.”
