This week at Prime Minister’s Questions, Nus Ghani urged the Prime Minister to call on our international partners to join with the UK in delivering the recent United Nations resolution to investigate and prosecute Daesh terrorists.
Daesh has wreaked terror, not just in the Middle East, but also closer to home and have claimed responsibility for multiple terrorist attacks in Europe and the UK. Khalid Masood, the terrorist responsible for the Westminster attack in March, lived in Tunbridge Wells and was in Brighton the morning of the attack.
In April 2016, the House of Commons condemned Daesh for committing genocide, and as a member of the Foreign Affairs Select Committee, Nus has raised this issue with the Foreign Office and called on them to take the international lead in bringing Daesh to justice.
Commenting on the issue, Ms Ghani said: “I was pleased to be able to ask a question at Prime Minister’s Question Time about an issue that I, and many people in Wealden, find concerning.
Daesh terrorists show no regard for human life. For the sake of their victims in the Middle East and abroad, and the 36 people who have been killed by Daesh in the UK in 2017 alone, we must bring these criminals to justice and prosecute them for the crimes they have committed. They are a threat to UK security and cannot be let off the hook.
The crimes Daesh have committed against Yazidi women - enslaving, raping, and murdering them - are just one example of the gruesome length that this terrorist group goes to.
Bringing them to justice will require sustained international cooperation. I am calling on the Prime Minister to urge international partners to join with us in the delivering the UN resolution, so that we can hold Daesh to account for their vile crimes.”
