Nusrat Ghani, MP for Wealden, was pleased to meet with the Leader of the 1st Buxted (O’Brien’s Own) Scout Group to discuss exciting plans for the refurbishment of their facilities, made possible by Government support.
The 1st Buxted (O'Brien's Own) Scout Group has recently been successful in securing over £950,000 from the Government’s Youth Investment Fund, which is aimed at improving local youth facilities and services in the out of school youth sector. Thanks to this support, the existing facility, which is a former army barrack hut, will be replaced with a new, larger, fully accessible and more energy efficient building with additional storage and space for scout meetings and community events.
The latest round of funding from the Youth Investment Fund totalling more than £90 million will support 140 youth centres across England and ensure nearly 20,000 more young people per year can access new state of the art facilities such as workshop spaces, sports halls, art rooms, recording studios and skateparks.
Two Wealden organisations are amongst those benefiting from this investment and alongside the 1st Buxted (O’Brien’s Own) Scout Group, the 1st Horam Scout Group will be also supported by over £27,000 to improve their facilities.
Nusrat Ghani said: “Wealden Scout groups play an important role in our communities, delivering rounded learning experiences, building resilience, and promoting wellbeing and outdoor activities. It is fantastic news that the 1st Buxted (O’Brien’s Own) Scout Group is benefitting from over £950,000 from the Government’s Youth Investment Fund and I was pleased to visit the existing site and learn more about how this funding will secure an improved, accessible and larger facility, enabling the group to expand and deliver positive outcomes for even more young people in the area.”
