An MP has praised small businesses in her constituency for their work during a "hugely challenging" period.
Nusrat Ghani, MP for Wealden, is supporting this year’s Small BusinessSaturday and has commended Wealden businesses for stepping up to support Wealden communities throughout the coronavirus pandemic.
Ms Ghani said: “This year, Small Business Saturday came at the end of another hugely challenging period for small businesses as we recover from the pandemic.
"Small businesses are at the heart of Wealden’s economy, and they have gone above and beyond to keep our communities supplied.
"I have been working tirelessly to secure more support for Wealden and I am incredibly proud that over £65 million of Government funding was successfully delivered through Wealden District Council to help our businesses.
"I encourage all Wealden residents to shop local and support our high street, especially during the festive period.”
Small Business Saturday UK is a non-commercial campaign, which highlights small business success and encourages consumers to shop local and support the businesses in their communities.
The day itself takes place on the first Saturday in December each year, but the campaign aims to have a lasting impact on small businesses.
This is the ninth year of the campaign in the UK, and it continues to go from strength to strength. Last year, over £1.1 billion was spent at small businesses on the day.
Bob Standley, leader of Wealden council said: "Small businesses are a vital part of Wealden's economy, and I would strongly encourage residents to support local enterprises especially in these challenging times.
"Wealden District Council continues to provide free car parking to encourage shoppers into our High Streets."
