Nusrat Ghani, MP for Wealden, has welcomed the launch of a new bus service linking Hailsham, Hellingly, Laughton, Golden Cross Lower Dicker and Willingdon to Lewes, Brighton and Eastbourne, as well as improvements to the frequency of services running from Uckfield to Tunbridge Wells.
East Sussex County Council has received £41.4 million Government funding to implement its Bus Service Improvement Plan (BSIP). The plan sets out to offer residents better and more frequent bus services, making a positive contribution to better air quality and decarbonisation.
As part of this plan, a new timetable of bus services has been revealed including new routes connecting communities in south Wealden.
The new 29A route, which is part of Brighton and Hove Buses Regency services, will provide an hourly service from Heathfield to Uckfield, Lewes and Brighton.
Additionally, the pre-existing route 28 which connects Brighton and Lewes will be extended to cover Hailsham and Eastbourne and run every 30 minutes during the day and hourly in the evenings throughout the week.
All single fares are capped at a maximum price of £2 until 31 October as part of the Government’s Help for Households Scheme.

Nusrat Ghani said: “Bus services are a vital mean of transport for many Wealden residents, and I am pleased that East Sussex County Council secured this much-needed Government support, which will give bus services across Wealden and the rest of the county a boost and deliver better, more reliable and affordable services across the region. It is great news that we now have additional bus services connecting residents across Wealden with services in Tunbridge Wells, Brighton, Lewes and Eastbourne.”
