Nusrat Ghani, MP for Wealden, has welcomed the announcement that two youth organisations in Wealden, the 1st Horam Scout Group and the 1st Buxted (O'Brien's Own) Scout Group will benefit from the Government’s Youth Investment Fund.
The Youth Investment Fund is part of the Government’s ‘National Youth Guarantee’ and has been developed to create, expand and improve local youth facilities and their services in the out of school youth sector, to drive positive outcomes for young people, including improved mental and physical wellbeing, and skills for life and work.
The latest round of funding totalling more than £90 million will support 140 youth centres across England and ensure nearly 20,000 more young people per year can access new state of the art facilities such as workshop spaces, sports halls, art rooms, recording studios and skateparks.
Two Wealden organisations are amongst those benefiting from this investment.
The 1st Horam Scout Group will receive £27,592.00 to refurbish their facility enabling them to support an additional 70 young people per year; and the 1st Buxted (O'Brien's Own) Scout Group will receive £950,981.00, intending to build a new full-accessible scout hut enabling them to support an additional 98 young people per year.
Nusrat Ghani said: “It is fantastic news that Horam and Buxted will benefit from a total of nearly £1m investment from the Government’s National Youth Investment Fund. Scout groups play an important role in our communities, delivering rounded learning experiences, building resilience, and promoting wellbeing and outdoor activities. I’m delighted that this funding will help the 1st Horam Scout Group and the 1st Buxted Scout Group deliver refurbished and accessible facilities, and support more young people across Wealden each year.”
