Nusrat Ghani, MP for Wealden, has welcomed the news that over £65 million was delivered by the Wealden District Council to Wealden businesses during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Having processed over 14,000 claims, Wealden District Council distributed more than £65 million in support grants to businesses in Wealden during the Covid-19 pandemic and periods of national lockdowns.
Following the Government’s announcement of an unprecedented package of support to help businesses through this difficult time, the Council quickly devised systems to process grants, ensuring that the money reached organisations as soon as possible. Additionally, Wealden District Council officers also prevented more than £1 million in attempted fraud and duplicate payments.
Nusrat Ghani said: “The past 18 months have been incredibly hard especially for our small businesses which are the backbone of Wealden’s economy. Throughout the pandemic, I remained in regular contact with Wealden District Council leaders and held many virtual meetings with individuals and businesses across Wealden to provide advice and support them in accessing Government grants and loans. Wealden District Council has done a fantastic job in supporting our businesses and communities throughout this most challenging time, delivering over £65 million of this vital funding to ensure that Wealden businesses continue to thrive.”
