Wealden MP Nus Ghani has welcomed further positive economic news, demonstrating the strength of the Wealden economy.
As of August 2018, the rate of unemployment claimants in Wealden is just 0.9 percent, well below the UK-wide figure of 2.9 percent.
Nationally, employment is at a record high with 32.39 million people in work, up 313,000 over the past year and up 3.34 million since 2010. Unemployment is down to just 1.36 million, down 124,000 in the past year and down 1.15 million since 2010.
Weekly wages are also rising in real terms, and a record low in youth unemployment at 4.7 percent.
Nus Ghani, MP for Wealden, said: “These figures are good news for Wealden and for the whole of the UK. Continued impressive employment figures demonstrate the strength of our economy, thanks to the careful management of the economy by the Conservative Government.
“They are not just numbers on a page, they represent more opportunity for more people, with the security of a regular pay-packet. It’s the hard work and dedication of businesses across Wealden that have created so many jobs over the past eight years.
“Since I was first elected I have regularly worked with our Chambers of Commerce in Crowborough, Hailsham and Uckfield, as well as with the farming community and our tourism and pub trade - all solid employers for Wealden families. I know how hard they work to ensure that the Wealden is economy is thriving and working for everyone.”
