Business Leaders from Uckfield met at a well-attended virtual meeting chaired by local MP Nus Ghani; they discussed the available support as well as new lockdown grant opportunities.
Business leaders also had the opportunity to voice their anxieties regarding the increased administration in light of Brexit and corporation tax rates. However, despite the current challenges, businesses are keen to promote their services in the area to send a clear message that Uckfield remains open for business, although in a different way as we learn and develop new methods to do business in these unprecedented times.
Nus Ghani, our MP is holding weekly surgeries for local businesses and residents to offer help and to ensure that their concerns are reflected in government policy. If you need urgent assistance regarding the coronavirus, please email: [email protected]
Nus Ghani said: “Small businesses in Wealden are the backbone of our local economy and this has been an incredibly difficult period for them. I was pleased to hear from Uckfield business leaders that despite the ongoing restrictions, there is still a lot of business going on in Wealden and that the majority of businesses were able to access funding from the Government or from Wealden District Council. As a member of the Covid Recovery Group, I keep stressing the unintended consequences on lockdowns on Wealden economy to the Government and I hope that once the national restrictions are over, business in Wealden will resume fully.”
