Nusrat Ghani, MP for Wealden, welcomes the news that Sainsbury’s has launched a new ‘Buy British’ section for online shoppers.
This new section highlights British grown and produced products to online customers who shop with Sainsbury’s. The ’Best of British’ page on Sainsburys.co.uk spotlights over 450 British-sourced grocery products, including popular produce, meat, dairy and eggs, meaning customers shopping for groceries on Sainsbury’s website can now find and buy homegrown produce even more easily.
This move by Sainsbury’s to highlight the Best of British joins Morrisons and Aldi as part of a national campaign to support customers in making smarter food choices and becoming more aware of British options when online shopping.
At a National Farmer’s Union meeting recently, Nusrat discussed with young farmers the concern that more needed to be done by larger supermarkets to stock and promote locally sourced produce. She has continually supported the needs of Wealden’s farming community, championing their produce to be recognised as a viable high-quality source for both customers and businesses.
Nusrat Ghani said: “I regularly meet with Wealden farmers and I know that the campaign to encourage larger supermarkets to better promote locally sourced produce is a matter of great importance to them. It is welcome news that Sainsbury’s is joining Morrisons and Aldi in giving their online customers the opportunity to shop for British-sourced products more easily. This will not only support our local farmers, but also cut down on unnecessary food miles and help create a more resilient UK food system. I will always champion our farmers and the Back British Farming campaign, and I continue working with local supermarkets on stocking more Wealden-grown produce.”
