Nusrat Ghani, MP for Sussex Weald, has to Ashdown Primary School in Crowborough to take questions from Year 5 students about the workings of Westminster, local campaigns, and her role as Member of Parliament, Chairman of Ways and Means and Deputy Speaker of the House of Commons.
The Year 5 pupils at Ashdown Primary School in Crowborough usually start their autumn term by learning about the democratic system of the UK, the role and responsibilities of Government and Parliament, and the British law-making process. To enhance their learning experience, they invite Nusrat every year for a Q&A session.
This year, the new Year 5 cohort were keen to discuss some of the most pressing issues in Crowborough as well as new laws passing through Parliament this year, and quiz Nusrat on her role and responsibilities as the Member of Parliament of Sussex Weald, her journey to Parliament, the hardest and the most favourite parts of the job, and her duties as Deputy Speaker of the House of Commons.
Nusrat Ghani said: “Every autumn, it is a pleasure to return to Ashdown Primary School to catch up with the new Year 5 group. I have been visiting Ashdown Primary School for a number of years and every time I am most impressed by the insightful and well-informed questions from the floor. It is always encouraging to see our young residents engaging with our democracy and the world around them, and it is a great testament to the fantastic teachers who are preparing our young residents so wonderfully for the world beyond school setting.”
