In the centenary year of the foundation of the Royal Air Force, the Crowborough Cadets, 1414 (Crowborough) Squadron Air Training Crops, held their annual Squadron dinner last weekend. Cadets’ President, Nus Ghani MP, joined them to celebrate their achievements over the last year.
In the last few months, 20 cadets have achieved classification badges, including one cadet becoming the Lord Lieutenant’s Cadet for East Sussex. All 34 cadets are also qualified in various first aid qualifications.
With support from the local branch of the Lions club, the Cadets have also expanded their facilities, including a new air rifle shooting range training cadets in shooting. Support from the Sussex Foundation has allowed cadets to train on a flight simulator in between their flying details in real aircraft.
Cadets have also attended aerospace instructor courses and trained in fieldcraft and radio communications, and later this year cadets will be attending camps in the UK, Gibraltar and Peru.
The celebration dinner raised £1100, which will be spent providing new computers for the cadets’ studies.
Nus Ghani, MP for Wealden, said: “It was an honour to attend the Crowborough Cadets annual dinner.
“The Cadets have achieved so much over the last year. It’s wonderful to see so many gain qualification badges and learn skills and expertise which will be of fantastic use throughout their life.
“The RAF is celebrating a hundred years since its foundation, and the Crowborough Cadets are a shining example of why the RAF is such a valued institution.
“Thank you to everyone involved with the Crowborough Cadets for all you do, and I look forward to continuing to support the Cadets as their President in the coming year.”
