Nus Ghani met with her fellow Conservative East Sussex MPs, who now form an active ‘East Sussex Caucus’ on the green benches, to discuss county-wide priorities, especially when it comes to healthcare and infrastructure.
The focus of the latest meeting fell on healthcare provision across Wealden, through access to hospitals in Bexhill, Eastbourne and Hastings.
The East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust briefed the MPs with regards to multimillion capacity expansion projects covering Bexhill Hospital, Eastbourne District General Hospital and Conquest Hospital, in Hastings.
Nus Ghani welcomed the assurances that the projects are running to schedule and that construction works are set to start in early 2022 at Eastbourne District General Hospital and Conquest Hospital.
After the briefing Ghani said:
‘It is always a pleasure to meet with my fellow East Sussex colleagues and discuss the shared challenges our constituencies face.’
‘I was delighted to hear from East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust. The investment going into the three hospitals is an important step towards better care in the county. This is also great news for Wealden residents, who rely on the these hospitals for serious medical care.’
‘We have frank and constructive discussion within our small, but effective “East Sussex Caucus”. I always bring issues raised by my constituents to the table and am met with support from my fellow MPs who see their constituents struggling with the same problems. Our aim is to campaign jointly on our local challenges and to remind the Government of its duties to the people of East Sussex.’
The MPs taking part in the East Sussex meetings are:
- Huw Merriman (Bexhill and Battle)
- Caroline Ansell (Eastbourne)
- Sally-Ann Hart (Hastings and Rye)
- Maria Caulfield (Lewes)
- Nus Ghani (Wealden)
