Nus Ghani, MP for Wealden, is delighted that her campaign to secure additional funding for Wealden schools has resulted in four schools being allocated funding to improve their facilities.
The Department for Education (DfE) has published the outcome of its Condition Improvement Fund 2020-2021, which will provide funding of over £434 million for 1,476 projects at 1,243 academies, sixth-form colleges and non-diocesan voluntary aided schools.
Wealden’s Beacon Academy, Hailsham Community College, St Mary’s School, Sir Henry Fermor Church of England Primary School are amongst the successful applications and will benefit from upgraded facilities and enhanced learning environment. Nus Ghani has campaigned for Wealden to get its share of the Government’s investment in education and is pleased to see this will begin with additional funding for four of our local schools.
The investment is part of the £1.4 billion of capital funding for 2020-2021 announced in April and will ensure that schools have well-maintained facilities to provide students with safe environments that support high-quality education.
Additionally, the Prime Minister has announced a new transformative 10-year school rebuilding programme, which will be kick-started with over £1 billion for the first 50 projects in 2020-21.
Schools across the country have played their part in responding to coronavirus, ensuring their doors remained open for the children of essential workers, who have kept the NHS, public services and economy going throughout this crisis. The £1 billion package is on top of the £14 billion three-year funding settlement announced last year, recognising the additional work schools will need to do to help students to catch up.
Nus Ghani said: “After many meetings with Wealden schools as well as the Department of Education, I am delighted that Beacon Academy, Hailsham Community College, St Mary’s School and Sir Henry Fermor Church of England Primary School will benefit from this funding. It is important we lay the foundations for a country where everyone has the opportunity to succeed, with our younger generations at the heart of this mission. This major investment will ensure that Wealden schools have the facilities they need, and our children have the very best possible environment to learn in, enabling them to gain all the knowledge and skills they need for success.”
