Nusrat Ghani, MP for Wealden, has returned to Saxonbury House Medical Centre in Crowborough to witness their first Covid-19 vaccination clinic for the second phase of the vaccination programme.
Saxonbury House has been administering Covid vaccines since mid-January, delivering the lifesaving jab to patients not only from Crowborough but also surgeries in Forest Row, Wadhurst, Groombridge, Hartfield, Mayfield and Rotherfield. To date, they have administered a fantastic 39,000 jabs, while also maintaining their regular GP services throughout the pandemic.
Nusrat has previously visited the practice to thank the medical staff and volunteers and she has been liaising closely with Dr Susie Padgham, Senior Partner at Saxonbury House and local NHS leaders to ensure that the second phase could be seamlessly rolled out in Wealden and surgeries could continue to deliver the jab to residents aged under 50 (cohorts 10-12).
Nusrat returned last weekend to witness the first clinic of the second phase of vaccine rollout, which marked the first 300 Wealden residents aged under 50 receiving their jab. Saxonbury House is currently listed in the national booking system and another 900 jab appointments are scheduled for next week. From today (15 June) people aged 23 and over can book their Covid-19 vaccine at Saxonbury House.
Nusrat Ghani said: “Vaccines are the safest way out of this pandemic and it was my absolute priority to ensure that people under 50 can also benefit from accessing the vaccine locally without lengthy travel to mass vaccination centres in Brighton or Eastbourne. I’m pleased that this has been achieved and I’m incredibly grateful to the team of clinicians and volunteers at Saxonbury House surgery for their astonishing work delivering this life-saving vaccine to Wealden residents in a fantastically organised, smooth operation. I’m aware that sadly, there have been numerous Covid-19 fatalities in the Crowborough areas and across Wealden. Please protect yourself and your love ones by making use of these fantastic local provisions and taking the first available appointment when it is your turn to receive the jab.”
Dr Susie Padgham, Senior Partner at Saxonbury House Surgery said: "The Saxonbury House vaccination team have been working phenomenally hard with the roll out of the Covid Vaccination Programme over the past 6 months bringing vaccine provision initially to Cohorts 1-9 within the surgery and to those in care homes or housebound in the High Weald area. We are now pleased to be able to offer to the younger Cohort 10-12 patients via the National Booking System. We are endeavouring to continue to reach out to the community to provide a local, easily accessible option to all Cohorts for both 1st and 2nd doses. We would implore individuals to step forward and have their Covid-19 vaccination. With cases of the Delta variant being seen across the country it really is so imperative that all adults receive this vital protection as soon as they can to not only protect themselves but also their loved ones and the community in which we all live. The more patients we can protect the safer we all are and the sooner we will be able to return to a more normal way of life which we are all desperate for. We will have numerous clinics available to book into via NBS in the coming weeks so we urge patients to come forward and let us help."
