Nusrat Ghani MP for Wealden, has welcomed the news of Openreach plans to build ultrafast, ultra-reliable Full Fibre broadband to at least three million more homes and businesses across the UK, including over 6,500 in Wealden.
Nusrat has recently met with representatives of BT and Openreach to bring frustrations of Wealden residents to their attention and discuss future improvements to broadband services and coverage in Wealden. She was pleased to learn that BT have recently invested £12 billion in Openreach and 6,539 premises in Wealden are set to benefit from this investment.
This new figure is in addition to existing coverage or planned build from other Openreach programmes, Community Fibre Partnerships or funded programmes. The programme will be phased over the next five years and with 2022 as the expected year to start the full build.
Nusrat Ghani said: “Broadband has long been raised by constituents and businesses as one of the top challenges in Wealden and I have been relentless in my work to secure reliable telecom infrastructure and broadband coverage in the constituency. I am pleased that last year, I secured full fibre broadband rollout for Hailsham, Horsebridge, Lower Dicker, Upper Dicker and Forest Row. I am pleased that a further 6,500 premises in Wealden will benefit from these improvements and I will continue working with BT and Openreach on further improvements for those parts of the constituency where connection remains poor.”
