Nusrat Ghani, MP for Wealden, has opened the new Jubilee Court at Wadhurst's Uplands Community College during an open morning visit.

The Jubilee Court is a polymeric pitch, with a new cricket wicket, a long jump, and a throwing circle, completed as part of improvements to the school following an investment of £12.5 million.

Nusrat attended the open day to cut the ribbon and officially open the court, accompanied by vice principal Mrs Richards and the head of sixth form, Mr Cunningham.

As part of the investment the school has also constructed a new building with brighter classrooms, new theatre and much improved IT and D&T facilities. The new building is called the Hanson Building, after the school’s business manager Sophie Hanson, who made the successful bid.

Uplands Community College is a secondary, co-education school for students aged 11 to 18. In September it will be joining the MARK Education Trust and working in close partnership with Beacon Academy in Crowborough.

Nusrat Ghani said: “I was delighted to open the fantastic new facilities at Uplands Community College and meet the students, staff and parents. The new building and sports pitch are a great improvement to the school and will enhance the learning experience of many generations of students.

"I am pleased that in addition to the already secured £1.3 million for improvements to Beacon Academy last year, Beacon Academy, Hailsham Community College and St Mary’s School will benefit from further funding from the Department for Education.

"I will continue to lobby the Government so that every child in Wealden gets the same education funding and opportunities as pupils across East Sussex and the rest of the country.”
