Nusrat Ghani, MP for Wealden, has welcomed the news that Wealden District Council has been awarded almost £157,000 from the Department of Transport to continue the roll out of electric vehicle charging points in its car parks across the district.
Forest Row, Crowborough, Uckfield, Wadhurst and Hailsham are some of the areas set to benefit from the first phase of improvements as part of the grant of £156,800, which was approved by Transport Secretary, Mark Harper. The installation of these additional charge points will play an important role in ongoing local efforts to support the transition to low carbon transport, and builds upon the 33 chargers currently available in the district. The aspiration is that all residents who drive electric vehicles (EVs), or are considering making the switch, have convenient access to EV charging.
Nusrat Ghani said: “I am pleased that Wealden District Council secured this substantial amount of Government funding to help with the delivery of electric vehicle charging in car parks across the District to enabling local residents to recharge their electrical vehicles more easily. This additional investment in local charging infrastructure is good news for EV drivers and reaffirms the Government’s commitment to decarbonising transport and meeting our climate targets."
All Wealden locations included in the first phase are: Lower Road, Forest Row; The Willows, Alfriston; Croft Road, Crowborough; Mill Road, Heathfield; Luxford Road, Uckfield; North Road, Pevensey Bay; The Greyhound, Wadhurst: and Horsefields, East Dean.
