Wealden Conservatives

Nusrat Ghani, MP for Wealden, has awarded local primary school teacher Heidi Greenwood with the Wealden Hero Award for her creative initiative for children during lockdown.

Heidi Greenwood, a local primary school teacher, a mother of five and advocate for the British farming community, has been spending her time during the pandemic reading stories to farm animals to encourage children to read at home. At the beginning of lockdown, Heidi created a Facebook page where she read short children’s stories which were broadcast from South Brockwells farm in Little Horsted. Different animals including horses, goats, sheep, pigs, cows, dogs and other animals were involved each time, taking the starring role and promoting and educating children about life on farms. “Mrs Greenwood’s Story Time At The Farm” has become so popular that Heidi has continued to do this after lockdown.

South Brockwells Farm & Farm Shop is a family farm located in Little Horsted near Uckfield. It has a busy seasonal farm shop selling home grown seasonal vegetables and meat, and it been serving the community through lockdown with deliveries of home grown and local produce to vulnerable people and families. To shop and to out more, please visit www.southbrockwellsfarm.com.

Nusrat Ghani said: “Wealden is home to many amazing farms which are the lifeblood of rural life.

"With the support of the Wells family at South Brockwells farm, Heidi has gone above and beyond for her pupils and found a fantastic way to educate our children about farm life and animals whilst keeping them entertained and encourage them to read. From the many nominations she’s received I know how popular “Mrs Greenwood’s Story Time At The Farm” is with children and adults alike. Well done Heidi!”

Championing our Farmers

Wealden is a beautiful place, with rolling countryside, stunning forests and energetic towns. Wealden is also home to many amazing farms, which are the lifeblood of rural life.
